The writing was on the wall. This pandemic sure has changed many things that we considered normal a few months ago, charter fishing is just another added to the list unfortunately.
As a member of the Board of Directors for the Stellwagen Bank Charter Boat Association, I can say that we fought hard to prevent this, and will continue to fight in order to restore the industry safely. If you are looking for support or updates as they are made available then join the SBCBA. Keep in mind that this non-profit association is not reserved for charter captains only. Our membership consists of commmerical and recreational anglers as well.
This will certainly be a crushing blow to the industry as a whole. 1620 Anglers feels so badly for our network of full-time charter captains during this difficult time.
As of today, these new regulations for commerical, recreational and for-hire boating, are in effect until May 18th unless we hear anything more from Governor Baker and whether or not the shelter in place and social distanicing advisory will be extended.
With the remainder of the school year in MA being canceled, it is difficult to think that everything will go back to business as usual come next Monday.
Our clients' safety is of more importance to us, even if we intended on putting safe measures in place for you and your immediate household members to enjoy a day of fishing on the local waters.
Please keep in mind that we will be waiving the deposit for resevations during the remainder of the shelter in place advisory. We recommend making your reservation for June though end of October. The silver lining in all of this is that is when the Striper bite is best anyways!
Stay safe and remember that we all can still go out and fish from shore (in areas that town officials haven't closed yet). We will get through this and be back on the water this season, I can feel it.
Keep it tight!
